THEME „WHY TREES ARE IMPORTANT TO THE EARTH‟.
IFLA World Landscape Architecture Month (WLAM) Celebration
The aim of this contest is to:
1. To access the participants‟ knowledge of the environmental potentials and hazards
surrounding us.
2. To motivate the participants to study and apply the methods for keeping the
environment green.
3. To create a deeper interest in the study of the Landscape Architecture via research..
Deadline for all submissions is 5 p.m. on Monday, May 11th, 2015.
SLAN will recognize the top three essays in each category at the Academic Board meeting on Saturday, May 16th, 2015.
Winners will be contacted the week beginning May 18th, 2015.

INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE IN AN ESSAY COMPETITION
TITLE OF ESSAY COMPETITION: “WHY TREES ARE IMPORTANT TO
THE EARTH”
CONTEST RULES FOR ESSAY COMPETITION:
• DEADLINE: All essays must be submitted by 5 p.m, 11
May,
2015.
• Submissions must be from pupils enrolled in a Primary School.
• Essays submitted for consideration must be original work and
must be prepared by one author only.
• Only one submission per category, per person.
• Students should include their full name, school, sponsoring
teacher and class information with their submissions.
• Individual entries must be submitted to amos.alao@gmail.com
• Winners will be contacted the week of 18th May, 2015. The top
three entries in each category will be recognized by the jury on
Saturday, May 16th May, 2015.
• Copyright of the essays entered will be assigned to the organizers.
Thematic range:
Thematically the competition covers desertification, environmental
pollution, erosion flooding, bush fires, heat wave, famine and other global warming issues.
Conditions of Participation:
The participants in the competition are divided into 2 groups according to their
age
ENTRY CATEGORY:
1) Ages 6 to 9
2) Ages 10 to 12
WRITTEN ESSAY REQUIREMENTS:
• Written essays should be submitted to amos.alao@gmail.com with
the subject line “Essay Competition,” or submit on
11th May, 2015to the Head Master/Head Mistress of their respective school for collection by the Society‟s
representative.
• Essays must not be more than 300 words for ages 6-9 years and 800 words for 10-12 years.
• Entries must be in English.
• Each page must be numbered.
• Essay should be submitted in A-4 sheets.
Each Essay should be accompanied by information about the participant. For this purpose, the following information should be provided on a separate sheet attached to the Essay.
a) Name of pupil.
b) Name of Parent/Guardian.
c) Address of Parent/Guardian.
d) Age.
e) Name of School, Town/City
f) Residential Address (street address, state, country)
g) Phone number
h) Entry category (State)
• GIFTS WILL BE AWARDED TO TOP FINISHERS AND A
LETTER OF COMMENDATION TO THE TEACHER/SCHOOL.
